A fish lands on a face. Neon becomes matter. An octopus dreams it is a fish. A crow waits for its ice cream in a desert shot through with electricity.

From 19 September to 22 October 2026, Château La Coste presents CHIMERA, a solo exhibition by Marie de Villepin bringing together paintings created between 2023 and 2026. Her paintings begin where forms elude all classification. The animal and the object, dream and matter, landscape and memory, meet on a single surface. These paintings do not describe the world. They take it apart to reconstruct it differently.

Marie de Villepin paints with a palette knife, brush and rag, with her hands and sometimes her whole body. She builds up the surface, covers it over, scrapes it back and begins again. Colours collide or are laid down in translucent layers, while drips extend the gesture. Forms may be concealed without disappearing; buried colours continue to show through later layers. Each painting retains the physical memory of its transformations. From the smallest formats to monumental canvases, a blot becomes an eye, a shadow an animal, a mass of colour a landscape or a creature. Nothing is fixed. Each surface remains open, traversed by presences, memories and metamorphoses.
