Fernando Zóbel - (1924–1984)
Born to a prominent Spanish family in Manila, Philippines, Fernando Zóbel drew profound inspiration from his boundless curiosity. He synthesized his wide-ranging passions—including archaeology, music theory, and performance, alongside a voracious appetite for reading—into artworks of great philosophical depth. This intellectual spirit also defined his versatile profile as a historian, patron, professor, bibliophile, and collector. He was the creator and founder of the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca, Spain (1966) and the founder of the Ayala Museum in Manila, Philippines (1967). His unique synthesis of Eastern and Western influences allows his work to engage audiences across Asia, Europe, and America in a lasting intellectual dialogue.
